Korean Artist of the Week (Feb. 14 – Feb. 20) – Mamamoo

Mamamoo is considered one of the best rookies of 2014 with their amazing vocals and other talents. They debuted with “Mr.Ambiguous” on June 18, 2014 under WA entertainment, which also houses the popular hip hop duo “Geeks” and R&B trio “Phantom”. Before their debut, they collaborated with several famous artists such as Bumkey, VIXX, and Wheesung, K.Will, and their labelmates, Geeks. On November 21, Mamamoo released “Piano Man”, which was quite successful. They ranked the tenth highest against other idol girl groups for digital sales, 19th among album sales, 11th overall for 2014, and won the rookie of the year in Gaon Chart Awards and Seoul Success Award (source).

Thoughts on Mamamoo

WA entertainment is definitely joining Brand New Music as my favorite Korean entertainment company. It’s great to see a company where they even let their rookies have some control over their music. Just like others, I was quite impressed with Mamamoo’s vocal slayage as well as the quality of their songs. The song that really caught my eyes and ears is “Piano Man”. It seems so classy with it’s “back in the days mystery shows” kind of MV. The song starts off with Hwasa’s soulful voice. As soon as I heard it, I knew I was going to stan this group and love the song. I stand corrected. It was such a wonderful mv with the black and white contrasting with the colored scenes. To answer Hwasa’s line.”Are you ready for perfection?”, I say yes. Yes, Hwasa, I am ready for the perfection named Mamamoo to give me an eargasm.
