Oh!Press Feature: Throwback Thursday 7

Don’t hold your breath because for this throwback, you’ll be needing all the oxygen you can spare!

SHINee is debatably one of the top K-pop boy groups of all time, so it’s no surprise that a throwback such as this would make any Shawol swoon in nostalgic bliss. The five musically gifted boys of SHINee have been blazing in the hearts of fans ever since their well-anticipated debut way back in 2008 with ‘Replay’.

‘Love Like Oxygen’ was the second single released from SHINee’s first full-length album ‘SHINee World’ which served just the amount of sizzling bubblegum pop that meshed perfectly within this particular era of K-pop. This easy breezy track makes for a great listen thanks to the golden vocals provided by the main and lead vocalists Jonghyun and Onew. Member Key airily pipes in a few lines right before dancing machines Minho and Taemin chant their way through the bridge of the song, which bleeds into the extremely catchy chorus. All five chime together in sync for a catchy string of lyrics that you’ll recite even without knowing the correct Korean pronunciation.

The lyrics vaguely dish up a rather heart jerking message of unrequited love in which the boys fret over a girl who literarily leaves them breathless. The rather solemn message seems to conflict greatly with the upbeat MV chock full of charming grins and heart throbbing visuals. The MV, though simple, displays SHINee decked in color-coded threads that match vividly well with the engaging and energetic choreo. Personally, I find this choreography to be one of the very best in the K-pop world and even after eight years, it still holds up.

Next time you’re feeling in a mood to dance, give this a play. I bet it’ll make you sweat.
