Wrapup

Yes, that is a lot of songs listed! There is a reason for it! This is actually going to be the last AOTW feature that I do. I have been thinking about when I would be stopping since the beginning of the year. If you look at the my LIST that i use to keep track of these, it has been almost two years since I started and this is the 80th one. That is a lot and it feels like a good time to stop. Thank you guys for supporting it and I hope you got something out of it. There are a lot of unfulfilled REQUESTS, sorry about that. I did as much as I could. Big thanks to the Translations team also for helping with song titles and artist introductions. Also, thanks to KoS and Momo for proofreading and helping me not sound like a rambling idiot (I still ramble though!).

So for the very last AOTW, I wanted to finish it off with one of my favorite Cpop artists. I’ve done threads for Jolin and Waa, and now I am completing my top 3 Cpop artist with Joey Yung (S.H.E and Lala would be the top 5 btw~). I normally listen to albums while making a list of possible songs to use for these threads, then I re-listen to those songs, and narrow it down to a reasonable 10-14 songs. Since this is the last feature and Joey is one of my favorites, I decided to not cut songs. So, now there are a ton of songs that I picked out from the 6 or 7 Joey Yung albums that I listened to last week. I separated them into ballads and non-ballads just to prevent it from being a giant messy list.

It is probably boring to say that Joey is my favorite Cantopop singer, same as saying Jolin is my favorite Mandopop singer. But, I don’t think people can deny that she stands out compared to some of the others in the scene. I don’t know many Cantopop artists that have the range that she has. She has done a variety of genres and she does them well. Whether it is this diversity that makes her popular, or if it is her popularity that allows her to try out different sounds, I am not sure. But I am happy she doesn’t just pump out ballads. I have only listened to “Moment”, but I enjoy her Mandarin songs as well and will eventually check out the other albums.

There are tracks from many different albums. Some are from the early 2000’s and some are more recent. I recommend listening to a few random ones before you decide if you like her or not, especially for the non-ballad section. If you don’t like the older pop songs, that doesn’t mean that you won’t like some of her newer material, and vice versa.
