Part 7
In the evening of that day I phoned Horikita Manabu.
“What a surprise for you to contact me.”
“I want to ask you one thing.”
“What is it?”
There was something I noticed while watching the student IDs of two students that I wanted to inform him about.
“Your assumption wasn’t wrong at all, I guess.”
Hearing this for the first time, he responded with surprise
“What you’re saying is that the student council… There was no precedent?”
“That’s right. Unless it’s not just a mistake.”
Of course, we couldn’t exclude the possibility of a mistake. It’s certain, though, that mistakes like this don’t occur casually.
“This school is, naturally, trying to change and progress. That phenomenon is supposed to have a meaning. It might be eventually useful for you that you noticed it before anyone else.”
Even if such day had come, I would have wanted it to end as soon as possible.
“You in the 1st year, probably have one more exam before the special exams of this academic year end.”
Did this mean that his situation differed from ours?
“This was talked about even last year, but there’s no certainty of it. If things are going to be as they were up to now, there is a chance of having special exams two more times in the third year.”
“The misfortune continues for you.”
If Nagumo had everyone from 2nd year under his guidance and also backed up 3rd year B Class, we couldn’t call it a safety zone.
“Certainly it’s an unpredictable situation, but try not to keep worrying about it.”
Even the previous students’ president didn’t seem to think of his condition as a predicament. He was feeling proud of his achievement of breaking out from the current situation and acquiring the fighting power.
But that could only apply to Horikita Manabu.
Having an eye on Tachibana Akane, too, Nagumo was aiming at the weak point where she could be crushed.
“For now, you should be worried about the 1st years as a whole.”
“If the student council is backing him up, a cover-up could also be possible.”
“Ah, it could be. Of course, if they overdo it, they might lose the school’s trust and thus, be forcibly dissolved. But we are talking about Nagumo, here. He might be able to cover it successfully. There won’t be a problem with Kushida, right?”
“I’ve taken care of that.”
“It looks like something is being done behind the scenes in order to crush Ichinose.”
“I’ll contact you again.”
Once I had gotten the required information, I hung up the phone.
