Last November 7, YG Entertainment’s name has been seen again on news headlines of various media outlets. However, the company isn’t making a buzz due to alleged illicit pursuits. There’s way too many already anyway, right? This time, it’s all due to the news that many Blackjacks have been anticipating to hear since 2016. Former 2NE1 member CL is leaving YG Entertainment for good. The rumour was further banished following the release of the company’s statement confirming the breakage of the dungeon’s chains.
After the pitiful 2NE1 saga, which finally led to the group’s disbandment three years ago, the members took their separate journeys. Both Park Bom and Minzy joined a new agency, although the latter was said to be having problems with her company recently. Meanwhile, Dara and CL stayed with YG Entertainment before the news broke out of the former leader’s exit from the agency. Among the four of them, CL is currently the least active. She pretty much faded from the public eye and was only seen at various parties and events.
As a longtime fan of 2NE1, I was deeply saddened by what happened to CL’s career. I know YG has a reputation of being messy, but I never foresaw that company treating her like that. However, we all know the entertainment business is similar to one big jungle, and it can be very vicious towards artists in certain occasions. Some of the idols right now are being mistreated in front of our eyes.
CL should’ve left the company ages ago. But because she’s bounded by the legality of her contract, it’s understandable why she couldn’t break the chains right away. For someone talented and charismatic like her, it’s great to see that she’s finally away from the agency that only wasted her potential for such a long time. She has everything in her arsenal to become more successful, and now that she’s finally heading on to a new chapter of her life, it’s exciting to think about the things she’ll do going forward. Will this signal a new music comeback? Perhaps, a 2NE1 reunion? No one knows yet what is CL’s next step, but many fans are hoping that it will be a good one. We’re only less than two months away from 2020. Hopefully, CL’s story of setting off to a brand new start will not be the only one we’ll see this year because many idols right now deserve to have that chance too.
