espressOH! | Favorite anime main characters who proudly wield their own strong swords

espressOH! is nothing but OH!Pressors casually writing about random stuff. Sometimes we want to shit on stuff, some times we want to be laid-back too. Well, whatever it is, have fun reading, or not~.

Of course we love anime main characters who are physically strong, smart, charismatic, classy, muscular, sexy, and the likes… but do you know what’s better? Main characters who use swords as their primary weapon! As peculiar as this introduction, here are some of the author’s favorite main characters who use a sword.

Kurosaki Ichigo | Bleach

Undeniably, the most popular anime character who uses a sword is the protagonist of Bleach. In the series, people like Ichigo, soul reapers, use their spiritual energy to wield weapons who are not just for battle but are also friends and companions. These weapons are called zanpakuto and Ichigo’s zanpakuto is named Zangetsu. In its latest form, Zangetsu is a pair of swords that has immense power.

Yato God | Noragami

Do you need any kind of help? And only have a penny to spare? Don’t worry because the Yato god is here to entertain your requests! In the world where Noragami takes place, gods of different purposes have the power to turn souls of deceased humans into weapons. These are then called Divine Instruments. Yato’s divine instrument is a young teenage boy named Yukine that turns into a long white sword. When Yukine risked his life to protect Yato, he evolved to a higher form of divine instruments, a Blessed Vessel.

Alibaba Saluja | Magi

Of course we all know that Aladdin is the actual main-est character of the Magi series but as part of the circle of main characters, Alibaba also deserves the credit. Alibaba gained his power upon defeating Amon’s dungeon with Aladdin and Morgiana. He is then granted the power of Amon through the metal vessel in the form of a huge black sword. Performing a Djinn Equip will allow Alibaba to generate and manipulate fire by will.

Gintoki Sakata | Gintama

I mean, how can anyone even not add this samurai in these type of lists? We all know deep down inside, our favorite anime swordsman is him! Gintoki, who has dead fish eyes, may seem like a lazy, dumb, and clumsy at first… well, he actually is, but behind his antihero personalities, he is a ferocious beast when it comes to fighting. It doesn’t matter what sword he use, this capable samurai will beat any opponent in no time.

Rin Okumura | Blue Exorcist

Above we have Gintoki, who is a satanic-ly comical character. Now we have Rin, who is an actual son of Satan himself. Pained by his own identity, he vows to become an exorcist and become the person to defeat his biological father. Shiro, his adoptive dad, gave him the Kurikara sword which suppresses his demon powers and also acts as a connection between the two existing realms: Assiah, the world where humans exist, and Gehenna, the world where demons prosper.
