Korean Artist of the Week (Jan. 2 – Jan. 8) – Block B

Korean Artist of the Week: Jan 2-8

 Block B (블락비)

Debuting in 2011 with Stardom Entertainment, Block B is a hip hop idol group created by rapper and producer Cho PD. Members include underground rappers Zico and Park Kyung, P.O, U-Kwon, Taeil, and B-Bomb. Their popularity rose with the release of “Nalina”, which was deemed an “all kill” on several music charts, and though they faced some troubles, their popularity elevated even more through “Nillilli Mambo”. In 2013,Block B filed a suit against their agency due to financial issues and came back later in the same year under their new agency, 7 seasons. Block B continued expanding their popularity with their releases in 2014 with songs such as “Jackpot” and “Her”. Their mini album, H.E.R, debuted at #6 on the Billboard world album chart and #2 on the Gaon Chart (source)

 Thoughts on Block B

First of all, I am really thankful to the user who requested Block B as they are one of my ultimate biases, and I enjoyed doing this article on them. They are a group that fits the hip hop concept very well as they have talented rappers Zico (considered by many as the best idol rapper), Park Kyung, and P.O. I fell in love with the group after hearing “Nillilli Mambo”; the choreography was cute and the song was catchy. Block B has also some of the best side tracks such as “Did You or Did You Not”, “Close Your Eyes”,”Romantically”, and more.

As much as I love their music, I love their personality even more. Block B is definitely a free spirited group and full of energy. They usually have powerful live performances and very caring towards their fans (Kyung is known to be extremely cheesy). They are also hilarious and not afraid to show their true personality! Just check out some of their variety shows such as “Match Up”; they give off as “the person next door” type of vibe instead of hard to approach type. This is one group definitely worth stanning!
