It seems that all the damage idol groups took on the digital charts in 2019 is being reversed. More idol groups are charting high, with quite a number scoring smash hits. Blackpink is no exception. They are always expected to take over the charts, but they have outdone themselves with ‘How You Like That’, their first comeback in over a year. But Blackpink aren’t the only idols to score high on July’s chart rankings. Let’s see who else got a slice of the pie.

Results
Digital Chart
Unsurprisingly, Blackpink came out on top with ‘How You Like That’ scoring a total of 175,704,998 gaon digital points. Second place went to Hwasa’s ‘Maria’, which scored 160,231,421 gaon points, giving her her second smash hit after ‘Twit’. Third place was Zico ft. Rain with ‘Summer Hate’, scoring a respectable 157,233,085 digital points.
Physical chart
There was quite a nice balance of girl groups and boy groups on the physical chart. EXO-SC came in first place with a truly impressive haul of 497,325 albums sold for 1 billion views. Blackpink established their dominance and came in second place with 299,640 albums, which is impressive for a single album. Third place was a close battle between ATEEZ and Red Velvet’s first subunit Irene&Seulgi. Ultimately, ATEEZ secured their position in the top three with 208,763 albums sold for Inception. However, props to Irene&Seulgi who sold over 200,000 albums – a feat that the full group is yet to achieve.
Voting
Regrettably, votes were quite low and there was little competition for the top spot. Either way, EXO-SC and Seventeen came out on top with 4 votes each. This is probably the first time that we have seen a tie on OH! Chart. Sunmi rounded up the top three and managed to grab herself 3 votes for ‘pporappippum’.
Final Ranking
After scoring high in two out of three categories, Blackpink easily secured first place with a total of 14.01 points. Second place went to EXO-SC who secured 11.37 points after scoring top points for both album sales and voting. Zico ft. Rain closed out the top three with their high digital score and achieved a whopping 8.78 total points. With the rest of the top five being idols, it seems that 2020 is a complete reversal of 2019.
OH! Chart: A Quick Recap of What All of That Means
OH! Chart is a monthly music charting system that is unique to the OneHallyu community and OH! Press readers. It tracks top 10 songs on Gaon Monthly Digital Chart and the top five best-selling albums on Gaon Monthly Album Chart. Thus, only data from exceptional performers will be collected for both categories. We will then aggregate the data and rank the songs based on three voting categories: Streaming and Downloads (55% of votes), Physical Sales (20%) and OH! Press Reader Votes (25%). After each full month, OH! Chart will be updated to reflect the best-selling and most-loved songs.
How the Results are Calculated
The top 10 songs from Gaon Monthly Digital Chart and title songs of the top five albums from Gaon Monthly Album Chart are selected. Only data for exceptional performers from these two charts will be counted towards their scores. Those who perform exceptionally across the board will have the advantage of scoring in all of them. For the final scores, each song’s individual data for one category is divided by the sum of that category, then multiplied by our chosen percentage (i.e. 0.20 for physical sales). The grand totals from all three categories are added together and multiplied by 100, forming the final score.
OH! CHART #1: BLACKPINK ‘HOW YOU LIKE THAT’
I am shocked, shocked, that Blackpink would come out on top (actually, not really). ‘How You Like That’ has been topping ruling the charts since release and won’t slow down. Blackpink also dominated in physical sales and social media engagement. They are without a doubt a top girl group, not just in Korea but worldwide. It’s nice to see the girls giving boy groups a run for their money. Blackpink is in their area, and they’re not leaving any time soon!
