OH! Chart Results: Challengers stake claims

The birth of five debutants made the competition piping hot this week. Could OH!Chart mainstays withstand the pressure of up-and-comers threatening their reputation?

How the OH!Chart system works:

The chart is divided into three different categories: Gaon Streaming and Downloads (55%), Hanteo Physical Sales (25%), and OH User Voting (20%). OH users are allowed to vote and have a say in the overall chart ranks of certain songs each week. OH users can vote for more than one nominee but cannot vote for the same nominee more than once. Every week, data from the three categories will be gathered and weighted accordingly. The artists with the 10 highest scores will make it onto the chart. If an artist wins a triple crown, their results will not be recorded in future charts.

Results:

World-famous idol group EXO sailed to win the prestigous OH! Chart triple crown this week by recording 19.54 points for “Ko Ko Bop”. Chart debutant GFRIEND claimed second place with their new jam, “Love Whisper” on 14.30 points. Reborn duo JJ Project followed in GFRIEND’s footsteps to clinch a podium spot for “Tomorrow Today” on 9.88 points.

JYP Entertainment’s fourth generation idols, JJ Project showed their big fanbase by winning the physicals category on 55,721 copies. EXO recorded their third-straight top two finish by selling 44,804 copies in second place. GFRIEND sold a solid 30,703 copies to come third.

GFRIEND easily finished first for the downloads on 158,284 hits – about 20,000 more hits than EXO in second position (138,918 hits). WINNER made a strong comeback to OH!Chart to claim third spot for their new track “Love Me Love Me” on 115,741 hits. Streaming queen Heize proved too strong for the field by winning the category with 6,457,878 hits for You, Clouds, Rain (feat. Shin Young Jae). Former winners Red Velvet came second on 6,142,773 hits while Heize again scored well for “Don’t Know You” (4,702,741 hits) to wrap up the top three.

EXO’s strong contingent of EXO-Ls on OH! proved their love to their idols by helping them win the category on 54 votes. Fellow boy group WINNER came second on 36 votes. Hyped up girl group Red Velvet rounded the top three on 22 votes.

The OH! community favoured EXO who won 68 votes. Their label mates Red Velvet came second again with 55 votes, just two votes ahead of BLACKPINK on 53 votes.

NO.1 SPOTLIGHT: EXO

Previous ranking: First

EXO proved unstoppable in winning a triple crown for “Ko Ko Bop”. The group has always carried success for each and every annual comeback they have. This title track is no exception. It has dominated the charts and music shows in Korea and gained a lot of love internationally. While EXO departs the OH!Chart system next week, they will surely be continuing yet another successful promotional period.

With EXO out of the equation, which artist will rise to take their place? Will GFRIEND or JJ Project contest for their first crowns? Or will more newbies jump to the top half of the chart? Let us know your thoughts below!
