OH! Chart Results: All-conquering idol dominates field

‘Big 3’ idol groups took the ascendency over influential soloists in this week’s OH! Chart. The winner claimed a mammonth win while others were fighting for respectful scores below them.

How the OH!Chart system works:

The chart is divided into three different categories: Gaon Streaming and Downloads (55%), Hanteo Physical Sales (25%), and OH User Voting (20%). OH users are allowed to vote and have a say in the overall chart ranks of certain songs each week. OH users can vote for more than one nominee but cannot vote for the same nominee more than once. Every week, data from the three categories will be gathered and weighted accordingly. The artists with the 10 highest scores will make it onto the chart. If an artist wins a triple crown, their results will not be recorded in future charts.

Results:

Iconic boy group EXO returned to the K-pop scene on a high by storming towards the OH! Chart crown. EXO’s “Ko Ko Bop” recorded a whopping 35.18 points. Last week’s winners and fellow SM labelmates, Red Velvet fell to second place on 11.45 points. EXO capped off a successful OH!Chart debut with their B-side “The Eve” taking out third place with 8.25 points.

EXO sold a record-breaking 432,637 copies to breeze towards a win in the physicals category. CNBLUE’s leader Jung Yong Hwa proved his popularity in claiming second place on 37,475 copies. Rounding up the top three is rookie boy group Snuper, who sold 15,444 copies.

No nominee could stop EXO from dominating the downloads, as they posted 203,672 hits for “Ko Ko Bop”. Red Velvet’s “Red Flavor” recorded a solid 129,123 hits, just ahead of talented duo AKMU’s Treasure (114,428 hits) and rapstar ZICO’s “Artist” (114,244). For the streaming category, digital queen Heize won for the second week in a row with 7,654,018 hits. Red Velvet clinched second place on 7,028,705 hits ahead of ZICO on 5,803,035 hits.

OH! users favoured EXO who garnered 113 votes for “Ko Ko Bop” and 96 votes for “The Eve”. Red Velvet capped off a dominant performance from SM Entertainment this week with 79 votes. BLACKPINK also attracted love from the OH community, as they won 42 votes.

Red Velvet once again rose to the occasion to win another category. This time, they easily claimed the hearts of OH users by notching 75 votes. BLACKPINK continued their strong OH form on 42 votes, just ahead of NCT127 on 40 votes.

NO.1 SPOTLIGHT: EXO

Previous ranking: Not applicable

EXO’s latest title track, “Ko Ko Bop” is a playful and sultry number that is vastly different to their previous releases. The song is filled with sensual vocals, smooth rap and snippets of dubstep that compliments multiple dance breaks. While this title track does not replicate EXO’s usual style, it is a breath of fresh air as the members rose to the challenge to tackle a new sound. The group has already made a winning start to their comeback period so it is likely they will continue to conquer.

Can EXO continue recording massive numbers? Will their SM labelmates put in a tougher fight? Or will another debutant follow in EXO and Red Velvet’s footsteps to win their first crown? Let us know your thoughts below!
