OH! Chart Results: BTS dances to landslide win

A world-class idol group could not be stopped from romping towards a landslide victory on debut. Mid-table nominees were competing for consolation prizes and the results came down to the wire.

How the OH!Chart system works:

The chart is divided into three different categories: Gaon Streaming and Downloads (55%), Hanteo Physical Sales (25%), and OH User Voting (20%). OH users are allowed to vote and have a say in the overall chart ranks of certain songs each week. OH users can vote for more than one nominee but cannot vote for the same nominee more than once. Every week, data from the three categories will be gathered and weighted accordingly. The artists with the 10 highest scores will make it onto the chart. If an artist wins a triple crown, their results will not be recorded in future charts.

Results:

Established and successful boy group BTS capped off a triumphant start to their comeback by winning the OH! Chart on début for their title track, “DNA” with 36.12 points. BTS proved their dominance in claiming third place for b-side “Best of Me” on 7.53 points, well behind former winner IU’s latest seasonal jam, “Autumn Morning” which took out second place with 14.42 points.

BTS’ win was consolidated with massive physical numbers, where they sold 748,279 copies. The previous two week’s winners EXO managed to come second with 19,443 copies. Rookie duo MXM wrapped up the top three with 5,772 copies.

Digital queen IU easily won the downloads with 379,326 hits. BTS’ crown-winning track “DNA” came runner-up on 224,178 hits. IU again proved her digital dominance in claiming third for “Sleepless Rainy Night” on 151,342 hits. For the streaming category, IU could not be stopped by slaying the rest of the nominees in coming first with 9,082,798 hits. Producer and soloist Yoon Jong Shin maintained his strong streaming form by finishing second on 7,280,816 hits. Rapper Woo Won-Jae recorded 7,144,860 hits in third place for his hit track, “We Are”, featuring Gray.

OH! users favoured BTS who became the first nominee to notch an all-kill in the top three for this category. “DNA” scored 144 votes, ahead of “Best of Me” on 121 votes and “보조개 (Dimple)” on 118 votes. Soloist Sunmi won a consolidation prize for “Gashina” on 56 votes.

NO.1 SPOTLIGHT: BTS

Previous ranking: Not applicable

BTS has returned to the music scene with a refreshing new track, “DNA”. The boys showed off their vibrant images in the music video and the energetic choreography. On the vocals side of things, they have gone for a very pop style. However, the song still features powerful beats which accompany BTS’s signature powerful dance breaks. BTS only just started their comeback period and had three songs nominated this week, so they were likely to continue their success in the OH!Chart.

Can BTS continue their hot streak? Will IU take advantage of her digital prowess? Or will another debutant rise to the challenge? Let us know your thoughts below!
