SSAK3 shows the kids how it’s done by taking over the music industry and jumping six places on OH! Chart in an incredible display of chart prowess. What’s more, the trio has got not one, but three songs at the top. And in their debut year no less! We’ve seen our share of monster rookies through the years, but none of them have ever pulled this off whilst getting on in years. An inspiration to all.

Digital Chart
We might as well summarise this month’s Gaon update with ‘SSAK3 world domination’ and call it a day. This temporary project group debuted OH! Chart last month with ‘Beach Again’ and ‘In The Summer‘, but has yet to chart out. Instead, ‘Beach Again’ jumped four places on Gaon and another one of their song ‘Play the Summer‘ (not to be confused with ‘In the Summer’) entered the top 10. ‘Play the Summer’ even nearly ranked higher Hwasa‘s ‘Maria’, which staunchly held on to its second place.
Physical chart
Meanwhile, the physical sales category returns to its usual boy group programme after last month’s pleasant surprise of a break. ITZY are the only female artists here, selling 206,280 copies of ‘Not Shy’, led by title track of the same name. But it’s a close race here. At the top is OH! Chart legend Kang Daniel who sold 330,824 copies of ‘Magenta’ by promoting ‘Who U Are’. Not very far behind is YG Entertainment’s rookie group TREASURE, who didn’t follow their seniors’ usual success in digitals, but made quite the solid debut here with 218,118 copies of ‘The First Step: Chapter One’ sold.
Voting
After singlehandedly turning the entire OH! Chart methology inside out, DANITYs simply said not today. Instead, 10 whole girl group stans charitably donated their votes to ITZY, sending them all the way to the top in the category. TREASURE is one vote behind, followed by CRAVITY who received 6 votes.
Final Ranking
Close numbers in physical sales (and even votes) mean that artists with comebacks like TREASURE, ITZY, and Kang Daniel can’t chart higher than digital monsters SSAK3 (9.39 points) and Hwasa (8.39 points). They’d need way more to beat the level of Korean general public support received by ‘Beach Again’ and ‘Maria’ to record as a truly outstanding #1 song of the month. But it does still mean that ITZY gets a bit of an edge over the boys, moving up into the top 3 with 8.19 points.
OH! Chart: A Quick Recap of What All of That Means
OH! Chart is a monthly music charting system that is unique to the OneHallyu community and OH! Press readers. It tracks top 10 songs on Gaon Monthly Digital Chart and the top five best-selling albums on Gaon Monthly Album Chart. Thus, only data from exceptional performers will be collected for both categories. We will then aggregate the data and rank the songs based on three voting categories: Streaming and Downloads (55% of votes), Physical Sales (20%) and OH! Press Reader Votes (25%). After each full month, OH! Chart will be updated to reflect the best-selling and most-loved songs.
How the Results are Calculated
The top 10 songs from Gaon Monthly Digital Chart and title songs of the top five albums from Gaon Monthly Album Chart are selected. Only data for exceptional performers from these two charts will be counted towards their scores. Those who perform exceptionally across the board will have the advantage of scoring in all of them. For the final scores, each song’s individual data for one category is divided by the sum of that category, then multiplied by our chosen percentage (i.e. 0.20 for physical sales). The grand totals from all three categories are added together and multiplied by 100, forming the final score.
OH! CHART #1: SSAK3 – Beach Again
SSAK3 is an endorphin injection the world deserves. Never mind the minor setback that was the blown-out-of-proportion karaoke debacle. Retro summer comeback ‘Beach Again’ is a veritable hit. South Korea said the ‘g’ in Linda.G stands for ‘goddess’, and that means this face of the group can do whatever she wants. U-DORAGON alone can do no wrong — he could record an entire album with burp noises and would still probably sell. Meanwhile, maknae B.ryong proves that half-air-half-sound is here to stay. But can these monster rookies stick around when summer ends? Stay tuned for the next OH! Chart update.
