K-pop throughout the years have been known for their captivating choreography and catchiest tunes but something that isn’t talked about much is the fashion. When it comes to a group, it’s interesting to see how they coordinate a set outfit; whether they use the same color scheme or identical outfits for everyone. Fashion is subjective so the OH! Press Team is here to talk about our favorite fashion statements in several K-pop music videos!

Picture a petite individual with extremely long hair that is less Rapunzel and more Ringu (if she had curls), scaling a mountain to reach its peak only to scream: Girl’s Generation’s ‘Genie’. Excuse me, what’s better than ladies dancing in iconic stewardess and military uniforms? It is legendary behaviour. SM Entertainment has a whole compendium of box MVs — ranging from flavourless to garish — but the seamless splicing of their choreography scenes forces you to accept girls in uniform as your new god and saviour. And I am a believer. A preacher. You cannot deny the immaculate, form-fitting uniforms. I simply forbid it.

While not the best outfits to perform on stage, the rainbow outfits from Red Velvet’s “Peek-a-Boo” represented one of the eye catching moments of the music video. Having an autumn color palette for the most part, when the rainbow outfits were shown in the MV everyone was quick to point them out (and because of the lgbtq+ messages on Yeri’s shirt), representing a splash of colors for the video.

One of the more newer K-pop groups in the scene, IZ*ONE music videos is full of elegance and charm. FIESTA in my opinion has one of the best outfit sets out there. Like the title track name, the color palette is all over the place. Starting with the black/white top and high knee boots, extremely gorgeous and gives off a uniformed look as all the tops have the same design. The plaid dress that they wear in the sand scene has a huge resemblance to the outfits AKB48 and related groups would wear! And of course, the outfits each member wears individually are of high-end fashion quality — chefs kiss.

Five years ago, EXO released one of the best K-pop songs titled ‘Call Me Baby’ (I said what I said). Apart from the song’s infectious beats, EXO’s outfits caught my attention right off the bat. I love leather jackets mixed with streetwear pieces. They look cool and stylish. Even though the music video is already from years ago, I can still see these outfits worn by idols today in magazine photoshoots or live performances.
