Fairies

Release Date: July 17, 2019

Tracklist:

  1. Metropolis
  2. Change My Life
  3. Tell Me How You Feel

Total Runtime: 00:12:06

Recommended for: Those who loved Fairies new music direction in their latest album JUKEBOX

NOT recommended for:  those who don’t like tracks with a western sound or are looking for more pop-ballads.

Metropolis is the 17th single released by Fairies. It was released in eight versions: a CD+DVD edition, a CD+Blu-ray edition, a regular CD edition, and five limited CD member version editions. This is Fairies’ first single in over a year since their last album ‘JUKEBOX’ was released back in June 2018. All the b-side tracks in this single have music videos along with the a-side track! Without further ado, let’s get into this review.

Track Review:

Track One: Metropolis

Metropolis is the a-side track in this single and is filled with catchy beats and dance moves. The song instantly reminded me of their previous single ‘HEY HEY ~Light Me Up~’, another song with a retro EDM style. It also gives off an old-school J-pop vibe with the melody and electric guitar. The choreography in the chorus is quite simple so it makes it easy to dance along with them! The music video features Fairies in the lit-up room with a black background and with individual shots, a holographic room. The outfits also remind me of Synchronized’s music video, where they also wore a black/gold outfit along with a white/pink outfit. Overall, I think Metropolis gives everything that makes Fairies amazing.

Track Two: Change My Life

Now for this track, it’s obviously more dance-EDM-centered including the music video. The track is very upbeat with the verses being more slowed down along with piano and drums in the instrumentals. The music video feels more of a choreography video that was taken in one take (not a bad thing!). They filmed this in a parking garage along with light sticks that give off a really cool vibe. I think what I loved the most is the styling, it’s been a while since Fairies had trendy looking outfits.

Track Three: Tell Me How You Feel

Definitely my favorite track from the single, Tell Me How You Feel is a light playful pop track that really focuses on the members’ vocals. I think the synths used here are what makes the song very catchy to listen to (gives off Tokyo Girls’ Style vibes, a fellow girl group under Avex). The song seems to about one who is in love with someone who does not know how they’re feeling about them and wishes to know. The music video is definitely one of Fairies’ simpler ones but I think with this type of song, it doesn’t need to be over the top. You’ve got the choreography captured on top of a helicopter pad roof and the members filmed around what looks like Tokyo.

Sadly the single is still not up on Apple Music/Spotify as of now and is only available for purchase on iTunes. Let me know what you think of Fairies’s latest single down in the comment section below.
