(G)I-DLE is back and better than ever with their new release ‘HANN‘. HANN is the first digital single released by (G)I-DLE, 3 months after their debut title track LATATA and mini album I AM. HANN was able to match LATATA’s peak and more on the charts, so it’s safe to say (G)I-DLE is here to stay. Without further ado, let’s get into this review.
Track Review:
Track 1 – HANN (Alone)
Starting with the music video, the visuals are a huge upgrade from LATATA. It’s not that LATATA wasn’t visually stunning, it’s just the set and props used were very basic compared to HANN (I imagine Cube Ent. went all out after the success of LATATA). The Bohemian look was used a lot throughout the music video, such as their outfits as well as some of the backdrops. Now for the choreography, I feel like it’s more complex than LATATA, not in the sense that it’s hard but that it has more intricate moves and formations.
On to the track itself, HANN as a whole is very cohesive, and there are no parts that are out of place or weird. The only interesting verse in HANN is the “Do You Remember” line since the flow slightly clashes with the instrumentals. After listening to that specific part several times, I realize that the beat resembles the ballroom dance Tango. The whistle from the HANN teasers is also present throughout the whole track and serves as the melody in the chorus. That, along with the “Woo Woo” verse, creates a very catchy tune.
What I love the most about this track is the lyrics. There seems to be a sense of revenge because of what a lover did to them. The members throughout the song continue to say that they’ll get over them, that they’ll forget, erase them and that there’s no going back. They come off as strong-minded and independent. Overall, HANN is quite different from other girl group’s releases with its mature and unique sound as well as a great comeback release for (G)I-DLE themselves.
The single is available worldwide on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music as well as for purchase on iTunes/Google Play. Let me know what you think of (G)I-DLE’s latest single down in the comment section below.
