We’re entering the Winter 2019 anime simulcast season, so it’s about time we talk about the interesting series coming up. The Winter simulcast season is usually slow and doesn’t really include a lot of highly anticipated anime series. Still, you can find hidden gems here and there. Without further ado, here’s my watchlist for the Winter 2019 anime simulcast season.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
This series kinda reminds me of GATE, with a similar type of main character who is into Dōjinshi and anime conventions though he’s quite active as a JSDF soldier. Also, I’m always looking forward to finding any action & adventure series. I think this one might be the one for the Winter simulcast season. The story follows Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic Otaku who spends his days on games and manga, who suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world. Air date: January 9th, 2019.
Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue
The last time I’ve probably watched a slice of life anime was probably Amanchu! Advance back in Spring 2018. There’s a cat in the story, so what’s not to love; I might as well check it out. The anime follows mystery writer Mikazuki Subaru, who isn’t good at dealing with people and finds them to be a disturbance when it comes to building his imaginary world. One day, he chances upon a stray cat and feels inspiration strike, so he brings the cat home as his muse. Can watching the inexplicable behaviors of a cat form material for a novel? Air date: January 9th, 2019.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen
A1 Pictures picked up this series, so I’m hoping it will be great. This series is a mix of comedy and romance, as well as being psychological. I’m interested in seeing how all that combines in the story. Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane are members of the incredibly prestigious Shuichi’in Academy’s student council. Such an honor asserts their positions as geniuses among geniuses. All the time they spend together has caused the two to develop feelings for each other, but their pride will not allow them to be the one to confess and become the submissive one in the relationship! Air date: January 12th, 2019.
Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka
I haven’t watched a magical girl series since like Sailor Moon Crystal, but I’m excited to see this since it looks like it’ll have a darker tone. The story begins when Earth is threatened by the sudden appearance of undead creatures. A group of young women blessed with powers from a mysterious source rose to defeat them. Now, after three years of apparent peace, the same malevolent creatures have resurfaced. Five magical girls are once again conscripted to war as the Magical Girl Special-Ops force, to defend mankind from an unholy nemesis. Air date: January 12th, 2019.
I hope you found my wish list interesting and you can check for more anime coming up this simulcast season by going to Anichart.
