Single Review: Lee Hongki, Yoo Hwe Seung – 사랑했었다 (Still Love You)

Release Date: April 8th, 2018

TRACKLIST

  1. 사랑했었다 (Still Love You)

Total Runtime: 00:04:18

Recommended For: Those who love ballads, anyone interested in a powerful vocal performance

Not Recommended For: Those who aren’t particularly interested in ballads or stronger sounds

For this release, FTISLAND’s Lee Hongki and label-mate N.Flying’s Yoo Hwe Seung team up for the emotional ballad Still Love You. Their first collaboration together, each vocalist of their respected band are able to showcase what they have got to offer on this beautiful single.

Detailing a story of someone desperately trying to move on from their lover, Still Love You’s lyrical content matches perfectly with the passionate performance we see on this track. Hongki’s husky voice blends nicely with Hweseung’s smoother tone, and bringing them together creates an engaging relationship between the two singers.

Hongki in particular is well known for his powerful vocals, but this track is a great opportunity for a rookie like Hweseung to show off his prowess. He does an amazing job at matching Hongki’s intensity, and when it comes to the 2:56 mark, Hweseung’s long string of high notes completely steals the show. While Still Love You is able to catch attention right from the start, this strong bridge is able to bring the track to its maximum potential.

The instrumental to Still Love You does a great job at heightening the experience, as it is equally powerful in measure, but doesn’t overshadow the vocalists spotlight. This creates an easy listening experience because the singers are not outdone by the accompaniment, and instead are complimented by the different sounds brought on by the instrumentation.

Still Love You is both emotionally and vocally stunning, as Hongki and Hweseung pour their hearts out on this beautiful track. Both passionate and powerful – if you are a fan of ballads – you definitely have to check this song out.
