Valentine’s Day: K-pop B-Sides (2021–22)

A selection of album tracks filled with love

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share songs from a few albums that express the theme of love. They center around two keywords: Affection and Happiness. Together, these aspects of wellbeing provide us with moments of appreciation that remind us of this pleasure.

All of these songs below cover love in a similar yet familiar way. You can express your love to another person by way of affection. But since love can also hold the truth from within, for some, it may feel reassuring knowing also that just another person might be thinking about you.

I have limited my choices to releases that were shared within the past year; anytime between February 14, 2021, and February 13, 2022. In so doing, we can meet more songs that are recent. You can listen to these songs separately — or in the order you like — but I recommend that you listen to them in the way they are presented here.

Let’s get started!

Laboum – How I Wish

How I Wish was released in Laboum’s third mini-album, Blossom, last November. The melody is bright with lyrics that hint at feelings of joy whenever you experience love.

2PM – Two of Us

Two of Us was released in 2PM’s seventh studio album, Must, last June. It speaks about a romantic and loving relationship between two people whose thoughts align correctly.

VIVIZ – Lemonade

Lemonade was recently released by VIVIZ, a trio of three former members from GFRIEND, who debuted on February 9, 2022, with their first mini-album, Beam of Prism. Lemonade expresses how someone might feel whenever they are in love and these feelings come together at the same time.

FTISLAND – Beautiful

Beautiful was released in FTISLAND’s eighth mini-album, Lock Up, last December. It shares about being in a state of bliss with someone whom you love. And it’s accepting that you can find yourself in this situation anytime with whoever makes you feel happy.

WJSN Chocome – Sweetie

Sweetie was released by WJSN Chocome as an accompanying track in their second single album, Super Yuppers!, this January. This song draws on a typical example of affection and shows that it’s natural to have a crush on someone.

Thanks for reading! What songs remind you of what it means to feel in love? Let us know about it!
